EDCI 337 Multimedia Story Project Draft: League of Legends MSI Journey
- Expedition Plan and Safety Preparations
Destination: The venue of the upcoming League of Legends MSI (Mid-Season Invitational) tournament.
Equipment List: Smartphone (for capturing footage), high-capacity power bank, handwritten cheering sign.
Safety Precautions: Due to the large crowds at the venue, there is a risk of losing personal belongings. Keep a close watch on your belongings and keep your backpack as light as possible.
- Story Structure
The story will present real-time developments in chronological order:
Pre-match Gathering: Waiting outside the venue and filming the venue exterior.
Entering the Venue: Ticket inspection and the moment of transition into the venue.
Match Highlights: The opening of the match and moments of excitement.
Post-match Footage: Post-match interviews or, if lucky, group photos.
- Media Formats and Application of the Meyer Principles
This project plans to utilize three media formats: text, still photos, and video. The following outlines the layout and conceptual plan (all images and videos shown in the text are preliminary test samples):
Multimedia Principle: Combine text, images, and video to avoid purely textual narratives, helping readers construct intuitive mental representations.
Spatial Contiguity Principle: All photos will be laid out immediately following the corresponding text paragraphs, avoiding clutter at the end of the text to reduce irrelevant cognitive load for readers.
Coherence Principle: Videos taken inside the arena inevitably contain extremely noisy ambient sounds and blurriness caused by camera shake. To preserve the most authentic esports atmosphere, I will not mute the audio. However, I will strictly apply the Coherence Principle by editing the video to retain only the most pivotal 5–10-second highlight clips, eliminating all redundant and lengthy shots to prevent cognitive overload caused by chaotic visuals.
- Conceptualization Process and Reflection on Challenges
Initial Motivation: I have a deep passion for esports, having been an avid fan since childhood. Through this assignment, I hope to showcase the charm and excitement of esports and share with everyone why I love League of Legends tournaments so much.
Core Challenges: How to convey the passion and allure of esports to classmates who have never experienced esports events; how to capture thrilling moments through better filming techniques; and how to plan my route to secure valuable autographs or photos with players after the match.
Strategy: I devised a streamlined shooting plan, collecting multimedia content only before entry and during specific breaks, and putting my phone away completely during the core match periods. This approach ensured an immersive experience while managing the volume of information, guaranteeing that the final multimedia story would be concise yet impactful.
